Visas
If you’re an Australian citizen planning to move to the United States, you’ll need to research visa types and how to apply. The U.S. Embassy and Consulates website is a good place to begin.
Employment
There are many excellent job opportunities in the United States. Our friends at Aussie Recruit work with U.S. companies to hire Australians across all industries, roles and levels. They also hold virtual and in-person events for job hunters.
Relocation Companies
If you are seriously looking to move to the United States, you’ll need to look into choosing a relocation company, as well as the cost of relocation. While you have many companies to choose from, one of our favorites is Superior Support Services.
Social Security Numbers
You can apply for a SSN online before you even arrive. Once you have submitted the form, you have 30 days to book an appointment at a Seattle branch in person to prove identity.
Passport & Consular Services
If you require consular assistance, please call the Australian Consulate-General in San Francisco on +1 415-644-3620. Alternatively, you can email sanfrancisco@austrade.gov.au.
If you require urgent consular assistance outside business hours, please call +1 415-644-3620 and follow the prompts to connect with the Consular Emergency Centre in Canberra. Alternatively, you can call +61 2 6261 3305.
Information about lodging Australian passport applications in the USA is available here. Some passport applications can be lodged by mail. Please check whether you are eligible to mail in your application here. Lodging your eligible passport application by mail means you don’t have to schedule an in-person appointment.
Please note, the Australian Consulate-General in San Francisco does not handle visa and citizenship enquiries or applications. Please visit the Department of Home Affairs website or call +61 2 6196 0196.
